Direct Procurement Officer (Pharmaceutical)
Responsible for managing the development and execution of procurement strategies and processes that align with the company’s operational goals. This key role ensures the procurement of high-quality materials and services while driving cost efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have excellent negotiation skills and extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, the position includes managing infrequent large expenditure, procuring indirect materials and equipment, engineering consumables, and various services.
Key Responsibilities:
· End-to-End Procurement: Lead the full procurement cycle for direct materials used in pharmaceutical production—ensuring timely delivery, cost efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.
· Supplier Management: Build and maintain a strong supplier network. Negotiate favourable terms and ensure consistent supply without compromising on quality.
· Vendor Assessment: Evaluate and select suppliers based on key metrics such as cost, quality, delivery performance, and compliance. Monitor ongoing performance to align with company standards.
· Contract Handling: Draft, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts, ensuring terms are beneficial and in line with regulatory and internal policies.
· Inventory Coordination: Optimise direct materials inventory to prevent shortages and overstock. Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to align procurement with production needs.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Manufacturing, QA, QC, R&D, and Supply Chain teams to ensure procurement supports business operations and meets regulatory standards.
· Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Ensure all procured materials comply with GMP and other relevant pharmaceutical regulations.
· Cost Tracking & Reporting: Manage budgets for direct materials procurement. Track spend, report savings, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
· Process Improvement: Drive procurement process enhancements to reduce lead times and boost operational efficiency.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline.
· 4–6 years of relevant procurement experience within the pharmaceutical or manufacturing sector.
· Proven knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiations.
· Solid understanding of GMP and pharmaceutical compliance standards.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on cost optimisation.
· Adaptable, proactive, and capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
